About the product

The bitter orange trees are native to China and India and were planted in the Mediterranean region by the Arabs in the 10th century. Bitter orange trees belong to the family Rutaceae and Citrus and prefers the warm and dry Mediterranean-style climate. They are particularly grown in the Sevia region of southern Spain.

Bitter orange tree can reach a height of 10 meters. In late Spring and early Summer, it blooms with rich and plump white flowers, emitting a delicate and fragrant aroma. The tree also bears the bitter orange fruits, which has a distinctive sour and bitter taste.

Three different essential oils can be extracted from the bitter orange tree. Neroli essential oil is extracted from the flowers, bitter orange essential oil is extracted from the fruits, and petitgrain essential oil is extracted from the branches and leaves.

Most neroli essential oils are produced in France, Morocco, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Neroli essential oil can be challenging to extract. During the flowering season in early April every year, harvesters picks flowers soaked in morning dew and bursting with sweet aroma to be steam distilled.
