Lavender is a small perennial evergreen shrub of the genus Lamiaceae. It is native to countries along the Mediterranean Sea
and is now grown all over the world. There are about 20 varieties of lavender, but Provence, France, is often regarded as the
area producing species of the highest quality. The narrow-leaved highland lavender grows on mountains with an altitude of
600 to 1800 meters, and is also known as high grade lavender.
Highland lavender likes long summers with moderate sunshine, and can withstand the ice and snow in winter. The flowering
season is from June to August every year, so this variety's essential oil extracts are particularly rich, and has a delicate, sweet
and soft aroma. It is widely recognized as one of the most premium lavender.
Lavender essential oil is particularly renowned in aromatherapy due to Dr. Gattefosse's laboratory accident, where during an experiment his hand was burnt. In haste, he placed his hands in lavender essential oil and surprisingly, the impacted areas was
not scarred. Afterwards, research into essential oil established the concept of aromatherapy, and was published on scientific literature in 1937.
